Leeds developed as a market town during the Medieval era as part of the local agricultural economy. By the 17th and 18th centuries, it had become a hub for trading of wool, later transforming into a major mill town during the Industrial Revolution. It was here in 1888 that the oldest-surviving film, “Roundhay Garden Sceneâ€, was made.
As the area grew, Leeds absorbed the surrounding villages before turning into a populous urban centre by the mid-20th century. Why not soak up its rich history today? Just be sure to stop at an Afternoon Tea Leeds establishment for a well-earned break!
