Historically, Yorkshire has hosted various people over several centuries. Indeed, Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Normans have all called this region home at some stage or another.

Perhaps most famously, Yorkshire, particularly the House of York, had a significant role in the War of the Roses during the Plantagenet era. Hundreds of years later, during the English Civil War, the region had divided loyalties between the Royalists and Parliamentarians.

By the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution had led to dramatic development in Yorkshire. Prominent industries included coal, textiles and steel, particularly in the towns and cities of Sheffield, Rotherham and Middlesbrough.

The region later became an important base for RAF Bomber Command during the Second World War. Nowadays, of course, it’s better known for sweeping scenery, ancient settlements and Afternoon Tea Yorkshire venues.
