A Short History of Padstow in Cornwall
Archaeological evidence indicates that a monastery once stood in the area of modern-day Padstow. However, the Vikings raided it in 981 CE, which might have led to it moving inland to Bodmin.
The community was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as being held by Bodmin Monastery. More recently, it has been associated with the famous restaurateur Rick Stein. That’ll make you hungry!
What to Expect From a Padstow Afternoon Tea
This traditional meal, first created in 1840, starts with Loose Leaf Tea, usually either Breakfast Tea or Earl Grey. When it comes to food, you can expect finger sandwiches of various fillings, scones with jam and cream (the Cornish order!), and plenty of cake.
It doesn’t have to stop there, though, as even more luxurious lunches include a glass of Champagne or Prosecco for good measure.
