The Danesfield House that stands today was completed in 1901 as a family home for Robert William Hudson. This remarkable property is the third to grace its glorious surroundings, set amidst 65 acres of meticulously maintained formal gardens with panoramic views of the River Thames and the rolling Chiltern Hills. On July 1, 1991, the property was transformed into a luxurious country house hotel, exuding charm and character that remain unmatched. Its rich and unusual history adds to its allure, and a walk through the grounds easily invokes reflections on the fascinating events the estate must have witnessed over the centuries.
Guests are greeted by an impressive tree-lined driveway of Hornbeams leading under the iconic Clock Tower, which sets the tone for the grandeur of the estate. The gardens, lovingly restored and renovated since the late 1980s, boast an array of exquisite and unique plantings. A highlight of the estate’s exterior is the magnificent Wisteria, masterfully pruned to bloom in a vibrant cascade of purple during May and June. The combination of history, natural beauty, and impeccable hospitality makes Danesfield House a truly enchanting destination.
