Caffeine
Many of us choose to drink Coffee in the morning in preparation for the day ahead. This is because it contains caffeine, a naturally occurring stimulant found in the leaves and seeds of 60 plants.
When caffeine arrives in the bloodstream, it quickly travels to the liver. Once there, the liver breaks down its components and passes them on to various organs in the body – including the brain.
Caffeine’s effect on the brain is one of the main reasons we choose to drink Coffee. It functions by blocking adenosine, a neurotransmitter responsible for relaxing the mind. Blocking adenosine, on the other hand, has the opposite effect. Caffeine essentially energises us, making us feel less sleepy. It increases blood adrenaline levels and heightens brain activity.
Not all Types of Coffee contains the same amount of caffeine, however. That means that its effects differ significantly depending on the caffeine levels of your morning cuppa. There are those who will choose Coffees that contain particularly high levels of caffeine. There are also those who prefer to steer clear of caffeine entirely, instead opting for decaffeinated coffee.
The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company stock Coffees of varying caffeine levels. It’s up to you to decide whether you need your choice brew to get you out of bed in the morning or not! Whatever you choose, you’ve chosen well with us, like our very popular Colombian Coffee. Every type we stock comes with our guarantee of not only quality but also consistency.
